Chick....remember I am here in Chapel Hill...so I cant just mosey up to Barry and go "Hey dude, how about sharing some hot slide licks"
AOK on the tamp finger...have seen folks use one(middle finger) or both middle and index. When Duane Allman played slide he used that little cream sample bottle on his pinky...so he could lift his slide finger and still play triads. I am no where near there but it is good to have great influences. I am really trying to play acoustic slide and I am trying to play intervals in between the slide licks.
now a question....If drop D and double drop D are used for blues am I wasting my time trying to play in true open D? It sure sounds good....also I was watching Woodstock (the film) and in CSN'z performance of "Suite Judy Blue Eyes" my friend mentioned to me that they were playing in the key of E flat for that song. They were playing an open tuning that is for sure.
Tom thanks for that site tip...lots of info..all kinds. Thanks Chick...I am thinking about buying a dvd that shows blues slide licks. I really like all this picking. The Guymeister
was checking out your picture page and noticed your lead singers eyes are always closed when singing.
is this to avoid having to look at the gruff hippies sharing the stage with him, or an effort to shield his eyes from all the female private parts being flashed at him during the show?
you guys sure are an interesting lot

Congrats to # 9 Prankster.....his facebook and myspace effort resulted in the LMP being voted Louisvilles Most Popular Band (at least on their blog)..they now have the live album and i hope that # 9 can organize a similar effort and get everyonf to call, blog, or e-mail WFPK RADIO and ask that they play the new Prankster Live album
Also doing my best to nail down an awesome lineup for our "Woodstock 40th Birthday Bash" Sunday, Labor Day weekend Aug 31.
Because of the Woodstock thingy we are going to do Summer Toejam on Memorial Day Sunday May 31.
Myron has informed me about the "Golden Road" Festival The weekend of July 31-Aug 2. This is a Dead /jam band fest in the format of AROTR. It is also going to be held on the Belvedere.
Everybody get their posse to call WFPK and request our stuff.

Mo...love ya man...but only physically gone from the ville....lots of me is still floatin round for eyes that see....
Now...Chickie's tips for playing slide....hm....why you would ask ME when Barry is standin' right here is beyond me....I don't know much....anyhow...NEVER take your tamp finger up from behind the slide...listen to a lot of Derek Trucks....and SLOW THE FUCK DOWN.
Sorry....best advice I could come up with on short notice
Thank you Tom for the tip. I am on lunch break..I am doing stagehand work tonight for Morrisey...used to lead the band "The Smiths"... Then Womens Empowerment(a three day "Gimme" event" and then The Broadway production of "Fiddler on the Roof" which reminds me of a hebraic deadhead fest. I love my work! Hope all is well in the Ville...donna sends her best. The Guymeister

So much for this being a learning site..I went out and bought a book of chords for open tunings. Hey Chick....if my memory serves me right you were the slide player in-residence....got any tasty tips for slide players? I have been working for a few years on the "Piedmont Style" of picking famous here in NC( Really the same...alternating bass with some type of melody) I guess I have started to explore open tunings for a new sound...to expand my sound. Look for a Stax-Volt tribute on your local PBS station coming soon...also the Sound of Philadelphia (sp?) I have found an old(er) Electro-Harmonics "Electric Mistress" that I am making payments on now....so now I have a Danelectro "Fab Echo"....Sounds likes a very deep reverb tank.......plus my Delta-Lab digital delay pedal .......and play my blues away...will somebody let me know what good shows are coming through your town. Also next week I take my union test for my yellow "Traveling Card" So I can tour or work out of town..wish me luck....it is a tough test.

Tom,
Thanks ! Yes I did leave a black guitar cord at LongShot's last night. I'll get it from you guys next trip.
BTW, I enjoyed sitting in with the boys last night. Next time I'll have a monitor amp so I can hear what I'm playing :)
Mo
If Drive by Truckes is O.K., how about Butt Hole Surfers?
Durn RD - I missed it ! !
Well, I'm still trying to come up tomorrow and catch the boys. I called Fred too.
To be serious for a sec, I want to pass on that it was a shock to hear about Greg's deal. I hope it works out. ( Greg - remember our little spin-out in the gear van in the snowstorm ? Silver Creek headed to Parkersburg, W VA circu late 70's. We made it then my friend, you will make it again ).
Oh, and that Tom guy from the GD - must have been a gas. How did he know 'bout you guys ? What did he play with you's ?
Of course, if you need a really GOOD piano player, I'll be glad to drive up from beautiful Woodford County-on-the-river and help you guys out ;)
I can't promise I'll try, but I'll try to try.
One's a nazi gasbag and the other is a dirigible
Just remember..................the world is laughing at you behind your back...............Give up.
Go placidly amid the noise and the haste and remenber what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they to have a story. If you compare youself with others you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than youself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations in the noisy confusion of life keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams; it is still a beautiful world. Strive to be happy!
