hey..I am back..I am at the hospital with Donna ...she just had radiation and is now getting a blood transfusion...The radiation and the chemo kills your blood..esp red blood cells. So sorry about Junius...blood cancer...be strong my friend..you have many that pray for you..and you are young...you are gonna beat this fucker. Now Iam going to be a bit shellfish and ask about some of the local talent I liked and see if they still play around. First...Walker/Kays...I really never got very hip to jazz vocals but Greg Walker is a hell of a guitarist and a great guy...played through a piano amp to get a "Fatter" jazz sound. I think I remember that he played a Gibson "Howard Roberts" model. Dick Sisto....when I left he had a weekly gig in the Seelbach bar. Got to know him well while i was doing fund raising for the public radio stations and also ended up going to U of L with his step-son and went to his house in Indiana several times. Want a really sweet place to take a date? Go see him. He has high musical and production/stage values and it will be a classy night of Jazz  Music. Does Duke Roballard still live in the ville'? I did not know him well But Rick Mason and Ricky feather introduced me to Duke and his wife, Susan.

Now for the big kahuna...Doe "Another Mule" still play in town (I knew they disbanded but they still did a yearly get-to-gether show. I really liked this band. they were no-bullshit and poss. one of the best local bands to grace PHTs stage (present co.excepted) and hows Old Marvin Maxwell SR.? another great guy. I still have a digital audio tape he made me of his old warhorse "Elysian Fields"(sp)

If it makes you feel any better Donna cannot STAND ' My Morning Jacket" She thinks their level of musicainship is quite low and their music is kind of a re-hash....not much really original. She has Dubbed them "My Morning Jock Itch". I must admit if I had the cash, If one could put you folks in the right venue with the right line-up of bands the possibilitys could be endless. Louisville has a fantastic music scene and great musicains. not a sell-out of values.

Here wot do we have...the incredibly(SP) egotistic and snotty Ben Folds and his sometimes 5 (his shows are BORING) Squirrel Nut Zippers (how they got a contract I will never know...the sloppiest stage band i have seen) really the Best from " Round here for me is

"Southern Culture On the Skids" They Just rock and rock and keep the music fun and laugh at themselves constantly. So let me know whats up I miss you folks....jeez....Mrs Bee was a newlywed...now she is a mom and Tom is the dad to his kids and tends to that famous sports announcer and fur-bearing creature, Al Paca (s)

Feck....time fecking zips by but you gotta keep the good ones close. I am gonna go get Donna some Tea...I am outta here.

Hey... I really liked living with Davis and Shelia....Davis was a great dude and helped me out many times. I used to help him with his Beasty Mustang. He got me a huge piece of new carpet to put in the attic. (Really I ended getting the best of that living situation...that whole huge attic for 50 bux a month) Golightly was a freaking psychotic mess. Tall Paul was ok...when he would stop eating all of our food. But all and all Davis and Shelia were the best. and this was back when Mike was alive and dating Ruth. I still have one of his mobiles. I also moved into his old place on upper Broadway after he and Ruth moved on (right across from the girls catholic high school). I have big work coming this summer. There is going to be a movie/film made in Durham titled "Main Street" and I hope to get 3 to 6 weeks of work out of that... I am out of here

Once again to dance and sing,

Once again to hold you close,

To feel your hips swing to and fro,

Swaying to the beat of a new drum--

Once again to Trip the Light Fantastic,

Once again to envelope Hope and release Doubt--

Yeah...what Chick said.... Hey sorry....I do not like to hear about my good friends having a bad time. Like the song by "The English Beat"........Lip Up, Fatty!

Yeah, Chicky-babe...I remember when I was living in the attic above Davis and Shelia and the crowd...them wuz some strange days and good days until Dave Golightly went wonky and I had to find a sane place to live. Tripped so hard there I spent almost a day and a half floating in the bathtub(Ohhhhhhh...Mr Bubble(z)).

Any-hoo "Rent" has come and gone. My next gig is next week...a full week..and the show is..."Jesus Christ Superstar" With Ted Neely. I am very excited. I did this show in High School in NY.(spent 11 and 12 grade going to Westport High....ARTS? They could barely afford toilet paper)I was in Orchestra and Symphonic band at the time and it was a true workout for us kids. We also did The Who's "Quadrophenia" on stage...but I digress.

The next big music show is going to be Willie Nelson and Roy Benson's "Asleep At The Wheel" I am gonna love working that show.

Hey RD...you are right about keeping track about all of this stuff in a note book or something. I have a metal box that I have had for years where all of my concert stubs go. Was looking through it the other night after i read your message.....hows this...1979....Stevie Wonders "Hotter Than July" Tour With Gil-Scott Heron as the opening act......12.50.

I am sorry about your fucked up weather and i hope all of you are warm and safe. Donna has been at the beach in SC for the past 4 days with friends. The Stones sang" Daddy your a fool to cry"....... to all my prankster brothers and sisters.....one love....one heart...

or break your foot off in their ass.    Freaky, I remain

just to clarify the song Dave was referring to for those of you who either weren't there or don't remember...once at Phoenix Hill, one of the managers took exception to how often we were inclined to say "fuck" on stage...so I wrote an apology...

I spend half my life a-whinin'

All I do is is bitch and piss and moan

All my friends have gone away

Cuz they hate the shit I say

Gone away and left me sorry and alone...

All I fuckin' am is sorry

All I fuckin' do is cry,

All I fuckin' am is sorry

And I'll be fuckin' sorry when I die.

To this day, I think one of my favorite band moments was when we said "Ladies Only", and all the chix in the Taproom sang the chorus...lol...

The point is this, though...we have been a family a long time...if the band never becomes the latest Triumph...lol...it just doesn't matter. Not when stacked up against the love we share and the memories we should be busy cherishing. Perhaps if you had spent the time I have spent far away from those I love or sitting in the crowd with a beer and a forced smile instead of watching the crowd from under the cheap lights, your appreciation for the moment would be a little bit enhanced...then again....

Put the bitter drink back in the bottle and let's raise a few glasses of little nips from the glass lined tanks of old Latrobe.  This is the only life we have for the moment...we die, you know. Do not waste the oppurtunity to celebrate all the love available in this moment and do not turn tired shoulders away when the time is so short and the hour so late...spring is coming, and i believe the Pranksters will blossom in this one like never before. I only wish I was still part of it. I must make my own way now...do not desert each other...i know what it is like...

The Original Round Mound Of Sound wrote:

Greetings Dudes and Dudesses,

I must admit that i have been offline for over a week due to our power outage. Governor Beshear has referred to the whole thing as the "worst natural disaster in Kentucky history".

I am not disputing the Governor's expertise, however I would like to put forth the hypothesis that a much more serious disaster occurred on this site while i was offline.

Most of you know that I have occasionally used the guestbook to blog my rants about certain things. At RD's request some months ago I have tried to curb that habit as I do understand that our fans don't necessarily need to be involved in our personal band squabbles.

Many times I have responded to entires made( i am never quite sure who writes what on here) but I have tried to inject my own weak version of sarcastic humor to deal with said subjects But you all know I am not very good at curbing my emotions, especially when it comes to this band.  I do not have the luxury about worrying about a lot of things that normal, well-propertied members of society concern themselves with. For you see..........I really have no life except for this band, and never really have.

My desire to make this band a respected nationally recognized act are all too painfully apparent to the rest of you, and I am appreciative that you have tolerated it to the point of not killing me..........yet. But we are on the cusp of whatever success outside the bar realm that awaits us, if any. So if I get overly enthusiastic about stuff it is not the same old drugged out Dave that has been shooting his mouth off for the past 22 years, but after my experiences with the medical world and my own mortality it is a sober and motivated Dave that has tried to make some positive changes to the band. I realize that sometime my unilateral action in this regard peeves some of you...............and i apologize for that.

We are entering what could be the best year ever for our band. My decision to go out on a big limb and borrow money  to get us some merchandise so we can promote our band and not look like a bunch of podunk grits was not made lightly, and the economic downturn certinly hasnt helped sales, so I am basically reliant on moving our merchandise to make up for all the money I paid back to my dentist. To my knowledge I have never "lied" to anyone about the Brown album project that Cory and I put MANY hours of hard work in on........the result is very satisfying, but I am afraid somehow this whole affair triggered whatever happened on here while i was away.

My major concern was always that folks would log in here to find out about the band and instead be subjected to a plethora of eclectic and obscure references to things that really had little to do with the band. Believe me, some days i would log on here and be horrified at some of the confusing information that had been posted in here.

I feel Randys paragraph some entries back was eloquent and effectively written. However now I feel that i am somehow responsible for our longtime friend taking his ball and going home mad. If this is the case i apologize for the inconveience this has caused to users of this site.

But know this.......................I will do my best to make this band a national act, or I will die trying. It may take a lot longer than I had hoped, but it is going to happenOur original lineup is one of the best bands in Kentucky. Add Barry and Bob and Rick and we are one of the best bands on the planet. I know I may have offended the sensibilities of those fans who are content with the  original lineup, again, my humble apologies. In your words Cletus, "All I fucking am is sorry".

Anyway, I hope normalcy prevails and we enjoy one of our best years ever. I will try to follow the advice of a gorgeous woman who told me recently when I lamented to her about the whole band situation............."just shut up and play your drums......the rest will take care of itself".

I am most proud to be a Louisville Merry Prankster.
