Well...since no one is speaking up...I can only summize that Ricks death must have been an overdose. I went to the guestbook that that C-J has set up for him in the obits(that will be open until Feb 7th if anyone wants to leave condolences)

Also...if any one is still interested in "The Dead" They will be touring this Spring and Summer. I just got a union call last night for their first play dates April 12-14 in Greensboro N.C. at  War Memorial Auditorium. it is the first date of the tour...so go to their website.....perhaps Warren Haynes is gonna play with them again (He lives in Ashville). I hope all is well. Now Donna and I are going to go have some indian food. mmmnnnnn tasty...........

Hello Freaks,

I am floored and somewhat agog. I am very sad to hear of the passing of Rick Mason. One of Louisvilles seminal electric Blues, Soul and R+B players is gone.

Yes, he had his devils that nipped at his shirttales....it is no secret that he loved to party. But he was a good man....never saw him in a fist fight.....he would argue though. I dont care what ANYONE says The Saints were a great rocking blues and soul group.

I first got to know him when I was running sound for Whit Shulz' "Bottom Line Band" (For me a great band...if Tony got too buzzed the guitar parts suffered......but our horn section...The late Jerome Howlett...we smoked) Many times we would split bills on the same gig....old places like "The Zanzibar", "The SoundStage",

"Troubador" and the infamous "Cabin Inn".

He was friendly...always ready to show you/me stuff on guitar His fingers were like long vienna sausages...really chunky....he would show me riffs and chord shapes while holding his forearm like a guitar neck.

My best memory of seeing Rick and The Saints was at the Pleasure Inn (Louisville eastside Clarksdale projects...almost in Smoketown)

I was attending U of L at the time and was driving my sweet old 73' VW street rod. The band and I were the only white faces in the house. I will tell you they shook this place.

If anybody knows how he passed please relay it to me me as soon as poss. I used to smoke doobs with this dude and he once lent me a super funky white w/ silver glitter Supro (played great....super reggae axe) and a traynor 30 watt amp he wasnt using while I was between guitars.

God......Ricky Feather and Rick Mason both playing in "Bodeco"

at  Tewligans....as women threw their bras and panties at the stage........I have great Louisville Music memories...The scene here just is not as alive as Louisville.

Donna is still doing radiation....for the next six weeks 5 days a week. I keep an eye on her but she is very strong and independent.

The Eagles Come through in Feb and they are going to have 2 dates here. I dont even wanna know the ticket price.

Much love to all of you....The Guymeister
